Irvine Valley tops Fullerton and Cabrillo in sand volleyball action
Irvine Valley improves its record to 2-2 overall on the season after losing to Long Beach State and Florida State last week, with 5-0 victories over both Fullerton and Cabrillo at home on Saturday.
Irvine Valley's women's sand volleyball team evened its record on the season with two 5-0 wins on Saturday at home.
The Lasers, who opened the season last week with losses to NCAA Division 1 schools Long Beach State and Florida State, defeated Cabrillo, 5-0, and Fullerton, 5-0.
Irvine Valley didn't drop a set in its opening win over Fullerton, but had two matches that went three sets against Cabrillo.
Against Fullerton, sophomores Marisa Doran and Kobi Pekich won, 21-12, 21-15.
At the No. 2 position, IVC's team of sophomore Annie Mitchem and freshman Emily Reinking won, 21-3, 21-10.
Irvine Valley got a 21-15, 21-17 victory at the No. 3 spot from freshmen Hannah Matt and Hailee Earnest.
At the No. 4 position, freshman Kayla Scheevel and sophomore Samantha Holdredge came out on top, 21-13, 21-14, and sophomores Hailey Jones and Shaelyn Perez won, 21-9, 21-11, at No. 5.
Doran and Pekich had the match of the day against Cabrillo, pulling out a 21-15, 19-21, 18-16 victory in what was the last match on the courts.
Matt and Earnest also pulled out a three-set victory. The duo won, 20-22, 21-12, 15-10, at the No. 3 position.
Mitchem and Reinking won, 21-15, 21-15, at No. 2 for Irvine Valley.
Holdredge teamed with freshman Taylor Askins to earn a 21-19, 21-17, at the No. 4 spot over Cabrillo.
And freshman Juju Cannon joined Jones at No. 6 for a 21-10, 21-15 win.
Irvine Valley will play again next Tuesday, hosting a pair of four-year schools. Division 1 University of Arizona and NAIA Concordia of Irvine will compete in a three-way match at 1 p.m.
