Hawks Dominate from Start to Finish to Defeat Santa Ana College

Santiago Canyon College's Men's Basketball Team was looking for revenge on Friday night as they hosted Santa Ana College. The Hawks lost earlier this season to the Dons for the first time in school history and were eager to get back to their winning ways. SCC took control early and never looked back, winning the game by the score of 89-68. The Hawks scored early and often in the first half, leading by 20 points with 4:57 left in the half. SCC ended the half with a 19-point lead, 50-31. Kai Smith was huge in the half as he scored 22 points on 8 for 10 shooting, including 3 three-pointers. Aaron Wadman added 12 points on 4 for 6 shooting, including 2 from distance. Wadman also had 9 rebounds and 4 assists in the half.
SCC continued their dominance in the second half as they built a 35 point lead with 7:55 remaining in the game. The game ended with the Hawks winning by a score of 89-68 as Santa Ana scored often late in the game. Santiago Canyon finished the night with 14 made three-pointers as a team. Leading the way in scoring was Smith with 25 points. Wadman scored 19 points, while Adam Holod came off the bench to contribute 11 points. Rounding out the leading scorers was Zach Ibbetson with 10 points. Wadman finished with 9 rebounds, and both he and Smith dished out 7 assists.
Santiago Canyon College improves their overall record to 14-9 and their conference record to 6-5. There is quite the battle for 2nd place in the OEC, as 5 teams are vying for that spot and all are within one game of each other. SCC will travel to Fullerton to take on the Hornets on Wednesday, February 1 at 7pm. The Hawks are currently ranked 15th in the state according to the Massey Ratings and were 16th in the state in the last coach's poll.
