SCC uses Pressure Defense to Defeat Irvine Valley College

SCC hosted Irvine Valley College on Friday Night in a second round game in the Orange Empire Conference. In the first game at IVC, the Hawks won by the score of 69-59 in a slow paced game. SCC was able to speed up the Lasers this time around and won by the score of 75-62. The win puts the Hawks in the thick of the playoff race and for 2nd place in the OEC.
Both teams played well throughout the first half. SCC was able to stretch their lead to 8 points with 6:11 left in the half. IVC's largest lead was 4 after just a minute into the game. Aaron Wadman led the scoring for SCC with 12 points in the half. Adam Holod contributed 8 points. The score at the half was 43-37 with SCC leading over IVC. The Hawks shot 50% in the half as their strong shooting has continued in conference play.
SCC used their press and uptempo offense to stretch the lead to double digits in the second half. They had their largest lead of 13 with 1 minute to go in the game. Wadman led all scorers with 25 points. Holod finished with 17 points. Kai Smith and Harrison Wiese both contributed 8 points. SCC scored 19 of their points off turnovers and connected on 11 of 30 three point shots. The final score of the game was 75-62 in favor of Santiago Canyon.
With the win, the Hawks are now 16-10 overall and 8-6 in the OEC. They wrap up conference play next week with road games. On Tuesday, February 14th the Hawks will play at Cypress College and on Thursday, February 16 they will play at Orange Coast College. Both games will have major playoff implications and seeding placement for the state playoffs.
