Opening Set Highlights Women’s Volleyball’s Loss to No. 24 Golden West
The Santiago Canyon College women's volleyball squad came out swinging in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) face off against the No. 24 Golden West College Rustlers on home hardwood. The Hawks lost by just two points in the opening set to make for an exciting match, but ultimately fell in the following two sets with all scores reading 23-25, 7-25 and 6-25.
A total of 19 receiving errors and five service errors was the Hawks thorn despite seven services aces.
Freshman outside hitter Sophie Ziglinski led the team with seven kills, but also led the team with eight attacking errors. This contributed to the team's 17 total offensive mishaps. Freshman outside Chelsea Riedel tallied four kills, backed by sophomore outside hitter Nicole Rodrigues's two kills.
Reidel was the go-to back linesman with seven digs, followed by freshman setter Peyton Speakman's five digs. Speakman ran the offense leading to 11 assists for her third-consecutive showing with double-digit assists.
Ziglinski and Riedel each had two service aces, while freshman middle Sarah Violett led the team with three aces; all of which came in the first set.
