Hawks Knock off Lasers for 91-70 Victory

#2 ranked Santiago Canyon jumped out quick on Irvine Valley and never looked back. They secured a 91-70 victory to improve their overall record to 19-1 and OEC record to 7-1. The Hawks are tied for 1st in the conference with Riverside City. SCC was hot in the first half as they nailed 6 three pointers on 11 attempts. The Hawks used a smothering defense and a quick tempo offense to build an 18-point lead at the half. SCC was led in scoring by Antoine Jenkins with 11 points, Paulo Araujo with 9 points, and David Agba with 8 points. The Hawks limited IVC to 35.7% shooting in the first half, while shooting 51.7% on their end of the floor.
Irvine Valley came out strong in the second half and cut the lead to 11 points in the first five minutes of the half. SCC answered back and built their lead close to 20. The lead would stay close to twenty throughout the half as the Hawks had all the answers down the stretch. Jenkins led all scorers with 23 points including 3 three pointers. Agba finished with 18 points on 8 for 11 shooting. Randall Walker provided a boost off the bench with 13 points on 5 for 6 shooting. Lucas Holden led the team in rebounding with 9 boards and Paul Vilela led the team in assists with 7. Vilela, Araujo, and A.J. Garrity all chipped in with 9 points. The Hawks finished the night with 9 made threes on 20 attempts.
SCC continues Orange Empire Conference play on Friday night as they travel to Orange Coast College for a 5:00pm matchup.
