Aguila Scores Two Goals, Hawks Down Rustlers

The Santiago Canyon College women's soccer team hit the road to take on the Golden West College Rustlers Tuesday afternoon in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action. The Hawks struck first and never looked back leading to a 4-1 victory.

The Hawks, who have now defeated Golden West in 20 consecutive matches, leaned on a heavy offense that featured the scoring prowess of freshman forward Samantha Aguila.

She got the ball rolling just seven minutes following kickoff with help from freshman forward Alyssa Marino to net the first goal of the game. The Aguilar and Marino duo stayed strong as they linked up again in the 43rd minute for the Hawk's third score of the game.

It was a tight contest after the opening eight minutes with Golden West tying the contest up at one-all in the eighth minute. Freshman forward Sloane De Torres put an end to the tie score in the 13th minute by banging a score through the posts which sahped into the go-ahead goal.

Freshman forward Rayleen Chairez added an insurance goal in the 69th minute of play with sophomore forward Sheila Sanchez assisting on the score, thus resulting in a 4-1 win.

Freshman goalkeeping duo Brittney Hazelton (3-0-0) and Krystal Maxey split duties for the second-consecutive match. Hazelton recorded one save, while Maxey hauled in two saves and did not allow a score.

SCC fired off 23 shots. Chairez led the way with five tries, while freshman Ayleen Jimenez, sophomore Jordan Salinas and freshman Jaqueline Arroyo tried their foot three times.

Aguila notched her first-career two score game, while Marino recorded her first-career two assist game. Chairez is now tied for the team lead with eight goals alongside sophomore forward Kristen Smick and Marino.
