Pirates Score Late to Edge Southwestern
CHULA VISTA -- The long, hot drive was well worth it for the Orange Coast College men's soccer team as the Pirates scored late and headed home with a 1-0 road win against host Southwestern College on Friday afternoon.
A hard-fought, scoreless battle with the Jaguars shifted to the side of the Pirates (1-1) in the 87th minute when Tai Khoshkbariie slipped a nice pass over to Zenden Berbari and the freshman midfielder found the back of the net to account for the match's lone goal of the day.
The goalkeeper duo of Michael Matzuy and Cesar Pedroza-Acosta combined for six saves to preserve the shutout win.
Coast will continue its four-match road swing to kick off the 2024 season on Wednesday at East Los Angeles College, beginning at 3 p.m. OCC's first home contest will take place on Friday, Sept. 13 against Pasadena City College, beginning at 4 p.m.
