Mt. SAC Wins 36-hole Championship, Claims Conference Crown

Whittier, CA- The OEC 36-Hole Conference Championships took place at Candlewood Country Club on Monday afternoon. Mt. San Antonio College took the tournament championship (368) along with the seasonal championship (57-9) and were crowned OEC Champions. 

Round 1

Round one tee'd off just after 8am on the challenging par 70 course. Candlewood Country Club is the home course of the Cypress Chargers and they showed their familiarity early in the round. Luke Bartram (Cypress) led round one with a low score of 71. Bryan Urip (Cypress), Chase Bosanko (Saddleback), and Brandon Winters (Riverside) followed closely behind with a score of 72. Ben Sanders (Mt. SAC) and Dustin Vasquez (Saddleback) shot the third lowest scores of the round with a 73.

Mt. San Antonio and Saddleback battled it out in the first round, but it was Mt. SAC who finished at the top. Mt. SAC totaled a team score of 368, where they saw all six of their golfers score well, Brandon Winters (72), Ben Sanders (73), Bryan Saw (74), Felix Tsui (74), Kotaro Noda (75), and Amaan Patel (76). Saddleback had five golfers shoot 75 or better, Chase Bosanko (72), Dustin Vasquez (73), Denis Watson (74), Zac Stout (75), and Patrick Jaksch (75), which was a strong effort, but one stroke shy of first place, 369. Cypress landed in third place with a score of 374, leading Orange Coast and Riverside by five strokes. Orange Coast swiped fourth place after winning the tiebreaker with RCC as they both carded a 391.

Round 2

Jordan Medlock of Riverside was the story of the second round as he turned in the lowest score of the tournament with a 65. Kotaro Noda (Mt. SAC) shot even par (70) as he finished with the lowest score for Mt. SAC on the afternoon. Luke Bartram mirrored his round one score with a 71, along with Matthew Wotherspoon (Cypress) and Bryan Saw who also finished one-over. Ben Sanders finished another impressive round, carding a 72.

Mt. San Antonio was dominant in round two finishing with a score of 360, eight strokes under round one. Their top five golfers all finished 74 or better leading them to the OEC Tournament Championship. The Cypress Chargers improved by five strokes in round two scoring a 369 and earning second place in the tournament. Saddleback got off to a hot start with a second-place finish in round one, but after a team score of 382 in round two, they placed third. Riverside saw the most improvement between rounds one and two, as they shaved 12 strokes, scoring a 379. Riverside grabbed fourth place followed by Orange Coast (5th), Victor Valley (6th), and Mt. San Jacinto (7th).
