Cypress Baseball Sweeps Orange Coast to Clinch First OEC Title Since 2009
Cypress College Baseball brought the Orange Empire Conference title back to the Charger nation for the first time in 16 years with a dominant 10-2 win over Orange Coast College at John Altobelli Park, completing a series sweep on Saturday afternoon.
Behind a 16-hit offensive outburst and a strong showing from four Charger arms, Cypress (30-7, 16-2 OEC) made history by locking in its first conference title since 2009.
The Chargers set the tone early, striking in the first inning on a Dustin Robinson RBI single, before exploding for four runs in the second. Bradley Navarro kicked off the frame with an RBI double, followed by a Justin Tillar RBI single and a towering two-run homer from Evan Rolbiecki to dead center, making it 5-0.
After OCC plated one in the third, Cypress responded with a two-run fifth inning capped by Zach Anderson's ground-rule RBI double and a Travis Curry RBI groundout. Anderson finished the day 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
On the mound, Amari Yolas earned the win in relief, tossing 3.0 hitless innings with three strikeouts. The Charger bullpen combined for 6.0 innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run.
Robinson, Rolbiecki, and Tillar each drove in multiple runs, while Ty Peters added two hits, two runs, and two stolen bases from the leadoff spot. Curry chipped in with two RBIs, helping the Chargers keep the pressure on the Pirates all afternoon.
Cypress added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth to seal the deal and raise the banner once again.
The victory not only secured the series sweep but officially crowned Cypress the 2025 Orange Empire Conference Champions, capping off a historic regular season run and setting the stage for postseason play.
