Gleb Mityurin Crowned OEC Singles Champion, Mityutin & Clark Reel in Doubles Championship

Gleb Mityurin Crowned OEC Singles Champion, Mityutin & Clark Reel in Doubles Championship

It was a clean sweep for freshman Gleb Mityurin in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Singles and Doubles Championships throughout the weekend. The freshman phenome reigned supreme in the singles bracket by earning a three-set victory over his teammate, sophomore Miles Clark, on Saturday.  Mityurin and Clark then teamed up to win the doubles championship in commanding fashion.

Mityurin earned the top seed in the conference in his inaugural season and quickly worked through Thursday competition. He defeated his first-round opponent, Faress Sorial from Orange Coast, by the final scores of 6-0, 6-0. He continued on to face No. 16 Rodrigo Onate from Fullerton and wiped the court with him in two sets with scores reading 6-2, 6-4.

He went on to cruise through the next two rounds to face off against his teammate and doubles partner, Miles Clark. Clark, who was ranked second overall in the bracket, earned a first-round bye and cruised through his opponents. His highest showdown was against No. 7 ranked Tyler Edwards from Saddleback, but he defeated him in three sets in comeback fashion (6-7, 7-6, 6-3).

It was a strong championship battle as Clark took the opening set, 6-3. However, Mityurin dug deep and took the following two sets by the final scores of 6-2, 6-4.

Mityurin and Clark paired up for the doubles championships as the second overall seed and thrived. After receiving a first-round bye, the dynamic dup cruised through the bracket and won handily.
