Women’s Tennis Sweeps Fullerton in Conference Play

The Riverside City College women's tennis program traveled to Fullerton College to take on the Hornets on Tuesday afternoon in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action. Riverside looked to sweep the series against the Hornets and did so successfully by the final score of 8-1.

Riverside thrived off strong doubles play highlighted by the top duo comprised of freshman tandem Torrey Mateljan and Maxelle Bernie. The worked towards an 8-4 victory. Sophomore Heather Graf and freshman Yasmin Johnson earned the most dominant doubles victory as the number two position with an 8-1 crowning. Sophomore Emilia Lopez and freshman Hannah Stevenson followed with an 8-2 win.

Graf followed her doubles win with a singles victory at the number two position at the final score of 6-1, 6-1. Bernie earned a two-set victory as the number three with her count reading 6-3, 6-1.

Stevenson followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win, while Johnson was strong at the fifth position with a 7-5, 6-3 win. Freshman Miranda Cardenas was the most dominant win of all with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 sweep.

Riverside (13-2, 7-2 OEC) will hit the road and face off against the Glendale on Friday, March 29 at 2 p.m. They will then return home on Thursday, April 4 against Irvine Valley for their season finale.
