Pirates lose battle with Knights, 4-3

COSTA MESA -- A back-and-forth battle with San Diego City didn't end well for the Orange Coast College men's soccer team as a pair of late goals doomed the Pirates, who lost 4-3, on Tuesday night inside LeBard Stadium.

After a SDCC goal in the 21st minute opened the scoring, Coast (0-5-2) opened the second half strong as Daichi Someya took a feed from Ethan Larsson and ripped a shot into the back of the net, leveling the match at 1-1.

The Knights (1-6-1) regained a 2-1 lead when Brett Woodworth slipped past the OCC defense and scored, but seven minutes later, Grayson Marquez took a feed from Pirate teammate Hope Saito and scored to bring the Pirates back level at 2-2.

The turning point in the match came in the 79th minute, when SDCC scored two goals in just under two minutes to grab a 4-2 advantage ... a lead the Knights would not give up.

Marquez's second goal of the night in the 88th minute -- off a feed from Bradley Kirkman -- made things interesting in the final minutes of the contest, but the Knights held off the late OCC charge.

SDCC goalkeeper Sebastian Guillen was big in goal with eight saves as the Pirates outshot the Knights, 18-8.

Coast will return to action on Saturday night inside LeBard Stadium against MiraCosta College, beginning at 7 p.m.
