The Hawks opened the season at home to a resilient San Bernadino Valley College Wolverines team. The hosts started strongly and after 11 minutes opened the scoring. Alyssa Rubio switched the point of attack and found Cassie Lewis on the left flank. Lewis beat her player and slid the ball across the six-yard box for Nikki Marino (pictured) to slot home. 
 
On twenty-three minutes SCC doubled the lead. From a goal-kick, Savanna Prado found Shelby Kain who played wide to HJ White. White connected with Camryn Toole and found Ally Gorsha who played an incisive pass to Rubio. Rubio split the center-back and the full-back for Lewis to run on to. Lewis cut inside and drilled the ball home for a marvelous team goal.
 
Maya Little was involved for the third as she fed Marino for her second goal of the night, and the Hawks went into the break three goals up.
 
SCC never hit the same highs in the 2nd period, but Shelby Kain scored from distance, debutant Aubrey Bryant scored direct from a corner, before turning provider for Kylee Medlin to convert the 6th. Savanna Prado collected the shut-out in goal.
 
It was a strong opening performance from the home team. Thanks to all those in attendance for their support. SCC play next at home to Southwestern College on Friday, September 2nd at 1.30pm.
