
Cypress Softball Secures Victory Over Cosumnes River in 3C2A State Tournament Opener
SARATOGA, CA – In an impressive display of resilience and power, Cypress Softball triumphed over Cosumnes River with a 7-3 victory in the opening round of the 3C2A State Tournament at Viking Field.
SARATOGA, CA – In an impressive display of resilience and power, Cypress Softball triumphed over Cosumnes River with a 7-3 victory in the opening round of the 3C2A State Tournament at Viking Field.
Cosumnes River struck first in the top of the 1st inning to take the early lead, 1-0.
Cypress responded in the bottom of the 3rd inning with Kaitlyn Reynolds singling to left field, bringing Julia Doan home to tie the game at 1-1.
The momentum shifted in the 4th inning as Jaylene Duarte smashed a solo home run to left field, giving Cypress a 2-1 lead. Shortly after, Lizbeth Gomez followed with another homer, this time to left center, extending the lead to 3-1.
In the 5th inning, Kimberley MacPherson singled to right field, driving in Mickayla Galaviz and advancing Duarte and Jazzy Lopez. The score increased to 4-1. Mikala Jacobsen then added a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Duarte and making it 5-1.
The 6th inning saw more action from Cypress as Nanea Kyle scored on a passed ball, with Doan and Reynolds advancing on the play. This unearned run brought the score to 6-1. Later in the inning, Duarte walked with the bases loaded, bringing in another run and further extending the lead to 7-1.
Cosumnes River made a final push in the 7th inning by adding two more runs on the board. Despite this effort, the game concluded with a final score of 7-3 in favor of Cypress.
UP NEXT: The Chargers are set to face the No. 1 seed in the North, San Joaquin Delta College for game two. First pitch is on Friday, May 17 at 2:00 pm.
