Cats overwhelm Rustlers for another win

The Saddleback women's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to eight games with a 6-0 win over Golden West College on Friday inside the Saddleback Stadium.  The Bobcats remain in a tie for first place in the Orange Empire Conference.

Saddleback used 25 players in cruising to the win.  The Bobcats shot out of the gate quickly with two goals in the opening seven minutes and never looked back.

Alyssa Mendoza scored her first goal of the season in the fifth minute off a pass from Lizbeth De Loera and Saddleback had a 1-0 lead.  De Loera (pictured) then scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season less than three minutes later and the Bobcats were off and running.  Saddleback added another goal in the half when Chloe Green tallied her sixth goal of the season off a pass from Samantha Villasenor in the 41st minute as the Bobcats carried a 3-0 lead into the locker room at the intermission.

Saddleback kept up the pressure in the second half when Aliyah Lorsung scored her first goal of the season off a pass from Mendoza in the 50th minute for a 4-0 advantage.  Ten minutes later it was 5-0 when Genesis Long scored her first goal of the season with a run down the middle of the field.  Long wasn't finished, scoring another in the 83rd minute off a beautiful pass from Brisa Romero for a 6-0 lead.

Saddleback outshot Golden West 25-4 for the game, including a 14-2 advantage in shots on goal.  Olivia Wynn recorded a shutout in goal for her third win of the season.  Wynn turned aside two shots on goal from the Rustlers.

Saddleback is now 10-1-2 overall and 5-0-1 in Orange Empire Conference play following the win.  The Bobcats remain in a tie for first place with Santiago Canyon College, who was a 5-0 winner over Santa Ana on Friday.

Saddleback will be at home twice next week.  The Bobcats host inter-district rival Irvine Valley College on Tuesday at 3:00 PM and Orange Coast College on Friday at 3:00 PM.
