SANTA BARBARA, CA – The SBCC women's basketball team has gotten out to a 2-0 start to the season, thanks to a second straight 12-point win 61-49 over Santa Ana on Friday at the Sports Pavilion.
The Dons (1-1) never led in the game. Forward Aislynn McKelvy scored on SBCC's first possession, starting an 11-1 Vaquero run out of the gates.
Late in the first half a pair of Brianna Jacobs free throws would put SBCC up 41-30. Santa Barbara would keep the visitors at bay the rest of the way, never seeing the lead go back to single digits.
Guard Isabella Favazzo had a huge night off the bench, knocking down 5-of-11 shots – all from three-point range – as she led the way with a team and career-high 15 points. Her fifth and final three-point make with 5:13 to go in the game gave SBCC its largest lead of the night, 59-34.
Jacobs ended her night one point shy of a career high with 11 on 4-of-8 shooting. Guard Eva Carrejo finished with eight points off the bench, as did Lia Rodriguez (3-4 FG). McKelvy went for six points on 3-of-4 shooting as well.
Guard Isabella Jensen Williams wasn't able to get her shot going, but finished with four points to go with eight assists. It was the second-highest assist total of her career, as she finished with one more than the entire Santa Ana team.
The Vaqueros are now out to their second 2-0 start since 2014. They will play again next Thursday-Saturday at the Riverside Tournament, beginning on Nov. 10 at 7:00 p.m. against the host Riverside Tigers.
