Falcons win third straight match after sweeping Golden West

Last season, the Cerritos College volleyball team went 5-0 during non-conference play. After their 25-14, 25-16, 25-19 non-conference win at Golden West College on Friday, the Falcons are now 3-0 to start this season. They will look for their fourth win in as many matches when they host Los Angeles Mission (4-0) at 6:00 p.m. next Wednesday.

Nearly unstoppable the entire match, sophomore Sydney May (Los Alamitos HS/UC Santa Cruz) pounded home 20 kills with just three errors to lead the offensive attack. When she wasn't accumulating team points with her attack at the net, she was setting up her teammates, as she also dished out 11 assists. Another threat at the net, sophomore Monserrat Rodriguez (Gahr HS/Long Beach City College) added 10 kills without making an error at the net, as the Falcons hit a collective .357.

The trio of sophomores - Brisa Cortez (Schurr HS), Lillianna Peterson (California HS) and Jasmine Soto-Castro (Schurr HS) - were also effective at the net, as they combined for 12 more kills, as the Falcons opened up early leads in each of the three sets and never looked back. Sophomore Leeya Rubio (Schurr HS) shared the setting duties with May and capped off the day with 16 assists, while adding six digs, while sophomore libero Priscilla Castillo (Schurr HS) led the team with eight digs.
