Riverside Gets Bats Hot in Victory
Riverside City College grabbed a big 7-3 victory over Fullerton College Thursday afternoon to even the Orange Empire Conference series at 1-1.
The Tigers improve to 11-19 overall and 4-7 in the OEC, while the Hornets drop to 11-16 on the year and 5-6 in conference.
RCC doubled Fullerton's hitting output, finishing with 12 hits to the Hornets' six. Rebeca Razo led the Tigers with a 3-for-3 performance, while Alysse Flores (2-for-3) and Grace Rogers (2-for-3) also had multiple hits in the game.
The Tigers got things started in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs on a two-out rally as Abigail Baldwin drove in two runs with a double to right field.
Fullerton responded with a run in the second, but RCC tacked on three more runs in the bottom half of the inning off an RBI double from Rogers before Razo drove in two runs with a single to right.
Once again, the Hornets scored on their next chance at the plate, but the Tigers answered back with a run in the third and another in the fourth to jump out to a 7-2 lead.
It came down to the top of the seventh as Fullerton tried to rally and managed to plate one run, but the RCC defense locked down with three-straight outs to secure the 7-3 victory.
Jessica Gaitan picked up the win in the circle for Riverside.
The Tigers and Hornets close out the series on Friday at Fullerton, with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
