Tigers Plate Eight in the 12th Inning to Defeat Cypress

Sophomore right fielder Matthew Bardowell dug into the box with two outs in the top of the ninth inning down by three runs. Freshman center fielder Julian Alvarez drew a one out walk and freshman third baseman Ignacio Alvarez drew a walk a batter later to set the stage for the power hitting corner outfielder.

Bardowell took a two-strike pitch and launched it over the outfield wall to tie up the score and force extra innings. However, the excitement did not stop there.

After freshman reliever Rheego McIntosh halted the Chargers from scoring in the bottom of the ninth, the Tigers got to work again in the top of the 10th inning by plating two runs to take the lead once again. Freshman left fielder Casey Murray, who entered late in the game and reached on a single to center field, socred on a wild pitch. J. Alvarez followed by singling to center field, plating freshman first baseman Daniel Garcia to take an 11-9 lead.

However, the long ball was infectious as Cypress launched a two-run jack to tie the game up at 11-all and force another two frames of free baseball. While each team failed to score in the 11th inning, it was the Tigers who exploded for eight runs in the top of the 12th inning leading to a 19-11 victory.

The 12th inning tells the tale as multiple Tigers got in on the scoring action. Freshman shortstop Sebestian Flores drew a bases loaded walk to kick off the rally, backed by I. Alvarez reaching base on a bases-loaded error. Bardowell promptly followed with a single to center field, scoring J. Alvarez to out Riverside in the driver's seat.

I.Alvarez followed two batters later by scoring on the second Cypress wild pitch in extra innings. Murray and Garcia followed with consecutive RBI knocks to seal the deal leading to a 19-11 win.

Freshman Jordan Townley (2-1) earned the win on the mound in what was an inconsistent showing from the pitching staff. He tossed two innings and allowed just one hit. Sophomore reliever Jon Mocherman tossed three innings and allowed the two-run homerun in the bottom of the 10th inning, but was otherwise successful. He led the staff with four strikeouts.

Bardowell continued to acts as the hottest hitter in the conference by going 4-for-6 with a double, two homeruns five RBI and four runs scored. J. Alvarez went 4-for-7 with three runs and an RBI, while Garcia matched his 4-for-7 clip with three RBI and two runs scored.
