Pirates put up 100 on Doucette's 100th career win
COSTA MESA -- Nothing like a nice round number, both on the scoreboard and on the resume for the Orange Coast College women's basketball team and head coach Sammy Doucette, who won her 100th career game as a Pirate on Friday night after her squad cruised to a 100-41 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Saddleback inside the Peterson Gym.
It only took 130 games for the two-time, state champion skipper of the Pirates (16-3, 3-0 in the OEC) to earn win #100 and it's a milestone she knows she didn't earn alone.
"Thank you to my awesome staff and thank you to everyone who showed up for the game," Doucette said. "And thank you to all of the teams that have contributed to those 100 wins. We all share in this accomplishment."
All eight players scored for the state's No. 3-ranked Pirates, led by Melaiah Joseph, who scored 30 points with 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals. In fact, FIVE different Pirates grabbed 10-or-more rebounds as Coast out-rebounded the shorthanded Bobcats, 72-35.
Myia Collins added 20 points, 16 rebounds and six assists for OCC, while Alyssa Dreessen contributed 16 points and 10 boards. Zoie Lamkin came through with 13 points, while Hailey Estrada added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
For the Bobcats, Moanike'ala Scott and Makayla Rutledge each had nine points, while Audrey Chow and Brianna Ruelas each added seven.
Coast dominated all stats over the Bobcats (7-11, 0-3), including a 98-60 edge in shot attempts and a 25-11 advantage in assists.
The Pirates will travel to Fullerton College to take on the Hornets on Wednesday, beginning at 6 p.m. OCC's next home game will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 29 against Irvine Valley, beginning at 5 p.m.
