COSTA MESA -- After a few frustrating results to start the 2024 season, the Orange Coast College women's soccer team burned off some of that negativity on Tuesday with a 6-2 nonconference win over visiting Rio Hondo College.
Litzy Morales picked the goal corner twice in the first half to help push Coast (2-3-2) to a 3-0 lead at the end of the first half. Clarissa Sullivan added two goals of her own, with Makenna Overholt and Finley Doucette each getting solo tallies. Assists were turned in by Doucette, Grace Graham, Kennedy Heimer, Stephanie Serrato and Jaslyn Cifuentes.
Sullivan got the Pirates on the scoreboard first when she took a throw-in from Heimer and found the back of the net in the 8th minute of the contest.
The Morales goals came eight minutes apart (28th and 36th minute) and the Pirates were in control of things with a 3-0 lead.
Rio Hondo (1-6) came out with some early juice in the second half and Brianna Sanchez ripped a long shot into the upper-corner of the goal in the 55th minute to pull the roadrunners to within a pair at 3-1.
But the Pirates responded with three straight goals by Doucette, Overholt and Sullivan over a six-minute stretch of the second half to give Coast the runaway win.
OCC will return to action on Tuesday at Golden West College for the Orange Empire Conference opener for both teams, beginning at 3 p.m.
