Marauder Women's Basketball lost their first-round home playoff matchup against the Irvine Valley Lasers 59-5. The two-point loss came courtesy of a buzzer-beater.
AVC led by five after the first period but had to fight back from a 5-point halftime deficit to regain the lead in the third quarter. With a two-point lead heading into the final period, AVC was outscored 16-12 in the fourth quarter, including the game-winning last-second shot by the Lasers.
AVC outshot Irvine 38.3% to 33.8% from the field, including a 58.3% to 23.1% advantage from behind the 3-point line. They also outrebounded the Lasers 43-34, but losing the turnover battle 21-13 proved to be costly in the loss. Athieng Bol led all scorers with 28 points. She also had 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 blocks. Zaniyah Wyatt scored 16 points with 5 rebounds, while Shaniya Sinclair grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds.
AVC finished the season 17-12 overall and 10-4 in conference as three players received WSC-South conference honors. Athieng Bol received Co-Most Outstanding Player of the Year, while Zaniyah Wyatt
and Shaniya Sinclair earned 1st Team All-Conference honors.
Bol ranked 2nd in the conference and led the Marauders in scoring with 20.4 points per game. Sinclair finished 1st in the conference and 3rd in the 3C2A in rebounds per game at 12.9. Wyatt scored 259 points on the season and led AVC in assists (85) and steals (63).
