Cats set scoring mark in playoff win

The Saddleback women's soccer team opened the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs with a 6-0 victory over Santa Monica College on Saturday night inside the stadium.  The Bobcats advance to play Cypress College on Tuesday.

Saddleback took some time to get the engine cranked up, but once they did they cruised away with the win.  The Bobcats and Corsairs were scoreless until the final minute of the opening half when Saddleback finally broke through for a 1-0 lead at the half.  Kylie Beu broke the scoreless tie when she took a pass from Summer Hackett and beat the Santa Monica keeper for her 10th goal of the season.

Saddleback took control in the second half, scoring in the 55th minute when Chloe Green connected off a pass from Averee Campos for a 2-0 lead.  Less than 12 minutes the same duo made it 3-0 when Green slid her 14th goal of the season past the Corsair keeper.

Saddleback then emptied out the bench and it didn't make a difference.  Christina Santoyo slammed home a rebound after Abby Grabowski hammered a ball off the crossbar to give the Bobcats a 4-0 lead in the 67th minute.  Saddleback made it 5-0 in the 72nd minute when Grabowski scored off a beautiful pass from Santoyo.  The Bobcats then made history in the 82nd minute when Santoyo (pictured) scored her second of the game off a pass from Laila Papopoff for a 6-0 lead.  It was the 79th goal of the season for Saddleback, breaking the single-season record of 78 set last season.

Jamie-Lynne Clark started in goal and gave way to Olivia Wynn in the 79th minute.  The duo combined for the 13th shutout of the season, facing just two shots on goal during the game.

Saddleback is now 17-2-3 for the season and advances to the next round of the playoffs where they will face Orange Empire Conference rival Cypress College on Tuesday night inside the stadium.  The Bobcats and Chargers are scheduled to start at 7:00 PM.
