Irvine Valley's men's soccer team earned its second straight win and got closer to getting its overall record back to level after defeating Rio Hondo, 3-2, at home on Tuesday.
The Lasers picked up their first win of the season last Friday, beating Southwestern, 2-1, at home last Friday.
IVC earned another one-goal win Tuesday.
And the same player finished things off for Irvine Valley. After scoring the game-winner against Southwestern, freshman midfielder Luke Newman did it again for the Lasers against Rio Hondo.
Newman followed up a strike by sophomore forward Armon Haghighat that was deflected and send the ball into the back of the net in the 57th minute to give IVC a 3-2 lead.
The defense and freshman keeper Rolando Hernandez did the rest for IVC to hold on for the win.
Sophomore forward Marcio Costa and Haghighat also scored goals for the Lasers in the contest. And Newman, sophomore defender Logen Coffin and freshman midfielder Cristian Sanchez recorded assists in the contest.
Hernandez played all 90 minutes in goal and had four saves in the match.
Irvine Valley is back in action Friday at San Diego Mesa.
