Men's tennis team plays best match of season in 8-1 win

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team earned its best win of the season Friday afternoon at home.

The Lasers won two of three matches in doubles and then captured all six singles contests in straight sets for an 8-1 victory over San Diego City.

IVC, coming off of a 9-0 win over Bakersfield on Thursday at home, improved its record to 4-1 overall.

Irvine Valley handed San Diego City just its second loss (6-2) of the year.

San Diego picked up its lone win of the day at No. 1 doubles with the duo of Hunter Lynch and Thomas Lynch knocking off IVC's top team of sophomores Lucas Diaz and Luciano Pardo, 8-4.

But it was all IVC the rest of the way.

Irvine Valley's second doubles team of sophomore Luis Moros and freshman Nevin McCann won, 8-0, and the No. 3 team of sophomore Nicholas Villar and freshman Jonathan Hinkel came out on top, 8-2.

In singles, the Lasers rolled.

Sophomore Sufyan Ashraf won, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 1 spot, Moros earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory on the second court and Diaz won, 6-1, 7-5, at the third spot.

McCann (6-3, 6-0), Hinkel (6-1, 6-1) and Villar (6-0, 6-1) finished off the job for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday at home in an Orange Empire Conference match against Orange Coast at 2 p.m.
