Defense clamps down on Hawks

The Saddleback men's soccer team picked up a win with a 4-0 victory over Santiago Canyon College on Tuesday inside the stadium.  It was the third shutout of the season for the Bobcats.

Saddleback scored early with back-to-back goals from Juan Ponce in the 6th and 10th minutes in sending a message to Santiago Canyon.  They added another in the 37th minute when Andrew Jun directed a perfect pass from Spencer Simis for a commanding lead before the intermission.

Saddleback's defense was dominant as the Hawks had little to no opportunities to speak of.  Ryan Mann (pictured) and the defense allowed zero shots on goal in the opening half and only two on goal for the entire game.

Saddleback added an insurance goal in the 81st minute when Sepand Soutehkashan scored his sixth goal of the season off a pass from Kevin Sanchez for a 4-0 lead.

Saddleback started Dominic DiFrenna in goal and he preserved the shutout in the second half when he steered a point-blank shot from Jorge Garcia Cruz wide of the goal in the 73rd minute.

Saddleback is now 6-4-2 overall and 3-3-1 in Orange Empire Conference play.  The Bobcats moved into sole possession of fourth place in the Orange Empire Conference with the win.

Saddleback will travel to Cypress College for a game against the Chargers on Friday at 3:00 PM.
