The Hornets hosted Taft College for Friday Night Futbol at Hal Sherbeck Field and after the dust settled the two teams finished with a 1-1 tie.
Taft came into the game hungry for a win with a 0-1-1 record tying Cypress (1-1) and losing to LA Mission (3-0). Earlier this week the 3C2A ranking came out with Fullerton (3-2 overall) landing the No. 15 spot.
For the match, FC grabbed a 1-0 lead when Juan Luis Quintana fed Cesar Marquez the ball and he drove it down the field hitting a frozen rope into the back of the net from 25-yards out in the 34th minute. The Hornet defense provided strong cover frustrating the Cougar offense throughout most of the game, until a yellow card in the 85th minute gave Lisandro Ceja a chance to knock in the penalty kick hitting the upper left corner of the net from 13 yards out.
With it all tied up 1-1, Taft had a couple of strong opportunities to score again as time burned off the clock, but Fullerton goalie Steven Martinez made a couple of bigtime stops holding off the Cougar's momentum. Martinez ended the night with 5 saves.
Up Next: The No. 15 Hornets (3-2-1 overall) will hit the road next Friday, September 13th when they face off against Cuyamaca College. Game time is at 4:00 pm.
