Chargers Secure Doubleheader Sweep
CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress Chargers secured a doubleheader sweep against San Diego Mesa on Friday afternoon.
Game 1
The Chargers shook off a slow start and leaned on strong pitching to claim a 4-1 win over Mesa in the first game of their doubleheader.
Giselle Del Castillo set the tone in the circle, allowing just one run on six hits through four solid innings of work. Despite the early offensive struggles, the Chargers bats came alive in the middle innings to turn the game around.
Cypress evened the score with a run in the fourth before breaking through in the fifth with a three-run surge. Carly Parmenter, Mickayla Galaviz, and Tina Payne all delivered key RBIs to put the Chargers ahead for good.
Haley Tucker entered in relief in the fifth and slammed the door on Mesa, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing just one hit to seal the victory.
Game 2
Chargers scored runs in each of the first three innings while starting pitcher Haley Tucker appeared to be cruising, throwing only 44 pitches giving up four hits through four scoreless innings. Tucker ran into some trouble in the fifth surrendering three runs on XXX hits. However, she went back into shutout mode giving up only two hits over the final two innings to secure her complete game victory 5-3.
Offensively, the Chargers were led by Mickayla Galaviz who had two RBI both on sacrifice flies and Nanea Kyle and Jazzy Lopez who both contributed with RBIs as well.
Defensively, the Chargers were solid, turning a rare 2 -4 double play in the fourth inning and only committing two errors for the game.
