Two early first-half goals set the Hawks on their way to victory against a physical and hard-running Santa Barbara Vaquero's team.
Summer Stewart opened the scoring around the 10 minute mark, following in to convert as a Cassie Lewis header came back off the cross-bar. Paige Winters doubled the lead ten minutes later. Then a fine stop from SCC Keeper Zaydee Solis settled the Hawks, who went in to the break leading by two goals.
After half-time, Santiago Canyon upped the tempo further, scoring the third goal ten minutes in to the second period. Some quick feet opened up the midfield for Mimi Diaz-Casarrubias to hit a low drive from 25 yards past the visiting keeper. Late-on Camryn Toole nearly grabbed a 4th but saw her shot cannon-back off the bar.
The Hawks now return to Cypress College for the 2nd Round of Regionals on Tuesday, November 23rd for a 2pm kick-off.
