DAY 1 OEC CHAMPIONSHIPS

The FC women's water polo team played in the opening round of the Orange Empire Conference Championships (hosted by Golden West College) on Thursday morning and came through with a 9-7 victory over Cypress College.

It has been a rough season for the Hornets (9-22 overall, 2-5 OEC) who have battled through injuries and a tough schedule, but the team has been resilient in putting up a good fight in every match played. 

No. 5 seeded Cypress stunned No. 4 Fullerton in the first quarter taking a 2-0, but the Hornets answered the call in the second quarter with a 5-1 run tilting the match in their favor heading into halftime.

FC controlled the third quarter outscoring the Chargers 3-1. The Hornets held a decent 8-4 advantage at the top of the fourth quarter, but the Chargers came surging back with a 3-1 run. In the end, Fullerton's defense held up as the team pushed forward with the win.

Moncerath Maldonado led the team in scoring with 4 goals, had 7 steals, and 1 assist. Macayle Franco scored 2 goals, while Kaylee Rojas, Elyse Weske, and Kayla Arias all scored a goal each. Goalie Brisela Robinson had 10 saves, 3 steals, and 1 assist.

Later in the day, Fullerton had to face off with No. 1 Riverside City College and fell 19-6.
