The Mounties (5-7), however, made a comeback with three runs in the fourth inning to trail, 4-3, but RCC scored two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings for the final, 8-3 score.
Leading the way offensively for the Mounties was freshman center fielder Quinn Cotter (2 for 4) and freshman first baseman Jacob Castillo (2-4, run, 2 RBIs) with two hits each.
With Mt. SAC trailing, 4-0, in the fourth inning, Castillo hit a two-run double to cut the lead in half, 4-2, scoring sophomore designated hitter Antonio Muniz (1-4) and freshman right fielder Brandon Bradshaw (1-5). Muniz and Bradshaw each reached on a single.
After Castillo advanced to third, freshman catcher Daniel Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Castillo, to trail, 4-3.
Mt. SAC sophomore left hander Michael Starns pitched a nearly flawless final two innings, allowing just one hit and struck out three batters.
The Mounties continue non-conference action with a home game against Santa Ana College on Thursday at 6:00 pm.
