The No. 20 in state Hornets hosted Imperial Valley College to open the 45th Colleen Riley Holiday Crossover Friday night and out-shot the Warriors 73-46.
Fullerton's victory tonight gives the team its 6th consecutive win bumping them up at 11-1 overall, while the Imperial Valley loss puts the team at 6-4 in the 3C2A standings.
The Hornets scored the first 5 points of the game, but the Warriors jumped ahead 7-5 off Julia Moreno's three-pointer. Hailey Lakey tied it up on FC's next possession 7-7, but a layup by Imperial Valley's Amy Riley gave her team a one bucket lead. Erin Choi's three-point-shot began a Fullerton 9-0 run that gave the team an 18-9 advantage with a minute left in the first quarter.
Up 20-13 by the start of the second quarter, the Hornets forged ahead with a 34-18 lead by the 3-minute mark. By halftime, FC was up 42-23.
The second half was all Fullerton as the team snatched its largest lead of 28 points (71-43) at 2:55 in the fourth quarter. It was another trey by Erin Choi that did the damage as the Hornets rode out the rest of clock for the win.
The Hornets had a good night out-shooting the Warriors 40.3% to 31.6%. Fullerton was also strong on the boards with 51 rebounds to Imperial Valley's 33. The FC defense also did its job scoring 20 points from turnovers.
Leading the way for FC with a game-high 18 was Jimena Solorio, who also delivered 4 assists with 2 steals. Xochitl Hood had a double-double night with 16 points and 17 rebounds. She nearly had a triple-double with 7 assists to boot. Erin Choi put up 12 points and Hailey Lakey scored 10 with 7 boards, 3 assists, and 4 steals.
