After a tough stretch that has handed the Santiago Canyon College men's soccer team six-consecutive loses, the Hawks looked to right the ship as they traveled to take on the Saddleback College Bobcats in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play. The Hawks went down by one score in the first five minutes, but battled back to end in a 2-2 draw.
It seemed to be the same old story for Santiago Canyon in the early stages of the contest as they conceded a goal to the Bobcats in the sixth minute. Nevertheless, the Hawks stayed true to their approach and quickly gained the lead in the ensuing 22 minutes.
Freshman Tenzin Wangdu, who has been a staple for the Hawks in the midfield, got a taste of the scoring action by humming home a netter in the 20th minute compliments of an assist by freshman Tristian Amacio, evening the score at one all.
Freshman Sam Everakes followed just seven minutes later by handing the Hawks their first lead in six games by firing home a score which was assisted by freshman Luis Martinez to grab a 2-1 advantage.
The second half featured two stagnant offenses with the Hawks surviving a handful of Bobcat opportunities. However, Saddleback broke through in the 69th minute to tie the game up at two-all and eventually end in a draw.
Five yellow cards were issued along with 16 total fouls. The Hawks had all five of their shots come in the first half, while Saddleback fired off a whopping 19 attempts.
Freshman Diego Saldivar (2-3-2) recorded a season-high nine saves in 90 minutes of action. Amacio led with two attempts on goal.
