Pirates roll to 92-82 win over Roadrunners

CULVER CITY -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball wrapped up the West L.A. College "Wild West Shootout" with a 92-82 win over Rio Hondo College on Saturday.

Ronnie Davis led the Pirates (4-5) with 27 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals, while off the bench, the combination of Rafa Urrabazo and Yahya Hussein combined for 15 points. Chris Obiajulu and Sawyer Clemett each had eight points, with Obiajulu grabbing a team-best 11 rebounds, including eight off the offensive end.

For the Roadrunners (0-11), Dorian Tate had a MONSTER game with 33 points and 24 rebounds, while Jhalen Hill added 16 points and Fidel Cabrera tossed in 15.

For the Pirates, it was quantity over quality as they shot just 37.6 percent from the field, but thanks to their strong defensive play (25 RHC turnovers), they shot the ball 93 times, to just 52 attempts for the Roadrunners.

Coast trailed 51-46 five minutes into the second half, but over the next five minutes, the Pirates went on a 21-6 run to carry a 67-57 advantage. Nine Davis points over that span, along with a big Hussein 3-pointer highlighted that crucial OCC run.

From there, the Pirates never trailed the rest of the way.

OCC will travel to MiraCosta College to take on the Spartans on Wednesday, beginning at 6 p.m. The Pirates will return to the Peterson Gym on Monday, Dec. 16 against Riverside City College, beginning at 3 p.m.
