
The Golden West College women's volleyball team delivered a commanding performance against Irvine Valley College, sweeping the Lasers in straight sets with scores of 25-19, 25-21, and 25-21. The Rustlers improved to 7-11 overall and 5-6 in the Orange Empire Conference, matching Irvine Valley's 5-6 conference record and dropping the Lasers to 5-14 overall.
Golden West took control early, winning the first set 25-19 behind an efficient .220 hitting percentage, with standout plays from Jenna Zaffino and Maren Matthews. The second set proved closer, but the Rustlers held strong, pulling ahead for a 25-21 victory. In the third, the Rustlers' offense hit its stride with a .310 hitting percentage, closing out the match with another 25-21 win.
Zaffino and Matthews led the attack, combining for 31 kills. Matthews was especially efficient, posting a match-high .519 hitting percentage. Johnston anchored the defense with 19 digs, while Zoellers set the pace offensively with 42 assists and added three kills of her own.
The Rustlers will look to keep the momentum rolling as they travel to Fullerton College Friday with a 6pm start.
