Pirates continue strong play with 90-55 win over Dons

SANTA ANA -- The Orange Coast College women's basketball team is enjoying life in the fast lane as the high-octane Pirates rolled to a 90-55 Orange Empire Conference win over Santa Ana on Wednesday night at SAC.

Just over a year removed from returning to the site of last year's lone blemish en route to a 32-1 record and a state championship, this year's Pirates (15-3, 4-0) took care of business early and created a drama-free night of basketball against the Dons (12-6, 2-2).

Bridgette McIntyre had another stellar evening, leading the way with 28 points and 13 rebounds. Jordan Arreola added 20 points and Ashari Cassell and Sabrina Lopez each chipped in 12 points and a combined 15 rebounds. Myia Collins and Alyssa Dreessen anchored the post for Coast with a combined 16 points and 17 rebounds.

The Pirate defense helped force 26 Dons turnovers, while holding the hosts to just 30% shooting (17-of-56) for the night.

Coast carried a 13-10 lead early on before pulling away for good with a 32-5 run into the second quarter that gave the Pirates a 30-point lead (45-15). The Pirates dominated the boards, out-rebounding Santa Ana 60-37 and the 26 SAC turnovers helped give Coast a 34-8 advantage in points off of turnovers. OCC also dominated in points in the paint (42-10), second-chance points (27-6) and fastbreak points (22-8), building up a game-high 37-point advantage in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

The Pirates will return to action on Friday at home against Fullerton College, beginning at 7 p.m. (TICKETS).
