Bobcats pounce back

The Saddleback men's soccer team picked up a crucial win with a 1-0 decision over Santa Ana College on Friday inside the stadium.  The Bobcats moved above .500 in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play with the win.

Saddleback had a nice bounce back win on Friday after a disappointing loss on Tuesday at Orange Coast.  The Bobcats cleaned up their play in the defensive end in shutting down the Santa Ana Dons, 1-0.

Santa Ana had a couple of chances in the opening 15 minutes, but the Saddleback defense held tight to keep the Dons off the scoreboard along with a little help from the goalposts.  The Bobcats then kicked up the offense and broke the ice in the 36th minute when Andrew Jun took a pass from Kevin Sanchez and made a scintillating move in beating the Santa Ana keeper.  It was Jun's seventh goal of the season and gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.

Saddleback and Santa Ana played even the rest of the way, as both defenses clamped down and kept the other team off the scoreboard.  Things got a bit chippy down the stretch as Santa Ana picked up a pair of yellow cards and a red in the closing minutes.

Santa Ana outshot Saddleback 8-5 for the game, but it was the Bobcats that had the only goal of the game.  DiFrenna finished with three saves in improving to 4-2-2 on the season.

Saddleback is now 5-3-4 overall and 2-1-3 in conference play.  The Bobcats are currently in fourth place in the OEC standings.

Saddleback will play again on Tuesday when they host (first place) Fullerton College.  The Bobcats and Hornets are scheduled to start at 6:00 PM inside the stadium.
