
Cypress Chargers Sweep Compton in Home Opener
Zoe Ziegler shines with 13 kills, as Keilyn Flores and Andrea Briseno lead the charge in a 3-0 victory
CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress Chargers women's volleyball team opened their home season with an impressive 3-0 sweep against the Compton Tartars. Despite a slow start, the Chargers rallied back to secure the win, showcasing resilience and skill on the court.
The Chargers struggled early in the first set, falling behind 6-1 as Compton took control. However, Cypress got on the board with a key point that stopped Compton's 6-0 run, sparking their comeback. The Chargers gradually closed the gap and took their first lead midway through the set. At set point, Cypress held a 24-19 lead, but Compton went on a 5-0 run to tie things up at 24-24. Despite the late push from the Tartars, Cypress dug deep and secured a hard-fought 26-24 win to claim the first set.
From there, Cypress found their rhythm. The Chargers dominated the second set, cruising to a 25-11 victory. After starting the set with a 6-1 run, Cypress finished strong with a commanding 9-0 run to close out the set.
In the third and final set, the Chargers maintained their momentum and composure, overcoming their early struggles to sweep Compton and win the match in straight sets.
Top performers included Zoe Ziegler, who led the team with 13 kills, Keilyn Flores with 18 assists, and Andrea Briseno, who added 4 aces to power the Chargers' offense.
