The Hornets hosted OEC rival No. 4 in state Cypress College on Wednesday afternoon and enforced the "mercy-rule" on the Chargers 8-0.
Fullerton has had its ups and downs this season, but this talented team can really light up the scoreboard when focused and relaxed. Locking down its first Orange Empire Conference win against one of the top teams in the state says a lot about this team. They can beat anybody.
With the weather warming up, so did the bats as the Hornets racked up 13 hits to the Charger's 6.
Getting the nod in the circle for FC was Aiden Carlson (2-1), who threw her first complete shutout game for the win. She gave up only 2 walks and had one strikeout.
The Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when short stop Linsey Arostigue hit one deep to left for a SAC fly giving Bethany Morrison the opportunity to run home.
In the third inning Fullerton jumped ahead with a 6-0 lead that was kickstarted by on Veronica Moore's two-run homer that sailed over the left field fence. Avery Wiersma then hit a single scoring Linsey Arostigue. Hope Morales wrapped up the inning with a double that shot down the left field line scoring Kasey Nichols and Juliana Ursino.
Veronica Moore did some more damage in the sixth ripping a hard single up the middle that plated Hope Morales. Linsey Arostigue put the finishing touches on the mercy hitting a SAC fly to deep center that allowed Bethany Morrison to cross home plate for the 8th and final run.
Up Next: The Hornets (7-12 overall, 1-4 OEC) will finish up their series with Orange Coast that was rained out from last Thursday this Friday, March 21st at 2:00 pm.
