Women’s Tennis Sweeps Saddleback

The Riverside City College women's tennis team traveled to Saddleback College to face off against the Gauchos in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action on Tuesday afternoon. Riverside continued their strong conference play by dominating the Gauchos by hauling in a 9-0 win.

Freshman duo Torrey Matejlan and Maxelle Bernie teamed up as top doubles team once again and worked towards an 8-4 victory. Sophomore Heather Graf and freshman Miranda Cardenas linked up as the number two pair and cruised to an 8-3 win, while freshman Hannah Stevenson and sophomore Emilia Lopez dominated the number three pairs at a score of 8-0.

Mateljan held down the top singles position and found herself in a three-set battle. However, she reigned supreme by the final score of 7-6 (3), 4-6, 10-6. Graf followed as the number two singles and earned a two-set victory with scores reading 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Yasmin Johnson mirror the same outcome at the number five position, while Stevenson earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory as the number four singles player.

Cardenas had the most prevailing victory at 6-0, 6-0. Bernie won via forfeit due to injury.

The Tigers (10-1, 5-1 OEC) complete a five-match road trip by facing off against the Orange Coast College Pirates on Thursday, March 14 at 2 p.m.
