VENTURA, Calif. --- The 2014 Lady Chargers proved that they will be a strong force this season after completely shutting down Sierra College by a score of 3-0 in Ventura on Thursday night.
Freshman Midfielder Layla Silva put the Chargers on the scoreboard within the first 13 minutes of the contest. Kendra Serrano was credited with the assist and the Chargers never looked back from there.
Following the first goal of the season, Jackie Gomez punched one in for the Chargers right before halftime. That goal gave Cypress the 2-0 advantage heading into the lockeroom.
Michaila Martin topped off the night for the Lady Chargers with a goal in the 58th minute and the Chargers were able to hang on and record the 3-0 victory.
The Lady Chargers will prepare for their second game of the season on Saturday, August 30, vs. Folsom Lake.
The game vs. Folsom Lake will also be played at Ventura College with a 1:30 pm start.
