Cats sweep Griffins

The Saddleback softball team swept a double-header from Grossmont College on Monday at the Saddleback Softball Complex.  The Bobcats are now 7-1 to start the season.

Saddleback opened with a walk-off win in the opening game before beating the Griffins by virtue of the 8-run rule in the nightcap.

Saddleback had a pair of home runs from Macy Smith in the opener, including a two-run shot that gave the Bobcats a 6-4 win.  Smith had hit a three-run home run earlier in the game, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs-scored and five RBI.

Saddleback trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom half of the third inning when Smith (pictured) drove a ball over the center field fence with two runners on base to give the Cats a 4-2 advantage.  Her second of the game came with no outs in the bottom half of the seventh inning with Ka'ui Garcia on base, traveling well beyond the left-field wall for the walk-off win.

Game two was never close as Saddleback exploded for eight runs in the opening inning.  The Bobcats sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning and had six hits while capitalizing on a pair of Grossmont defensive miscues.  The big blow was a triple to right field from Tasneem Kerdiya, who finished 3-for-4 with two RBI in the game.  Kerdiya finished 5-for-7 in the two games and is now hitting a team-leading .643 for the season.

Saddleback is now 7-1 to start the 2025 campaign.  The Bobcats are scheduled to host Los Angeles Mission College on Wednesday at 2:00 PM, weather permitting.
