After a rocky season in 2023, the Santiago Canyon College men's soccer team looked to kick off this season's campaign on a high note against the East Los Angeles Huskies. The Hawks had minimal chances on offense, but held the Huskies off the board leading to a scoreless draw.
Neither squad was able to locate the back of the net throughout the entirety of the match despite the Huskies pushing hard for a goal in the ladder half of the contest.
East LA outshot the Hawks by the ratio of 10-3 with seven of their opportunities coming in the final 45 minutes. Freshman goalkeeper Diego Saldivar manned the box and hauled in three saves leading to the tie in his inaugural campaign.
Sophomore Andrew Marentes, freshman Noah Lopez and freshman Brayden Cerminelli were the lone opportunists in the contest with Marentes and Lopez finding the frame.
A defensive line highlighted by freshman Brandon Baruch accompanied by freshman Danny Ramirez and freshman Tyler Reid set the tone for much of the contest.
Freshman David Rogel provide a spark to the offense despite not getting a shot off, while sophomroe Hudson Dare and freshman Luis Martinez clocking solid minutes in the draw.
