It was a low scoring affair on Friday night as the Tigers took on the Irvine Valley College Lasers in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action. Riverside controlled the pace of the game by applying full court pressure, causing a shaky Laser offense to struggle resulting in a 55-45 victory.
The Tigers limited turnovers while forcing Irvine Valley to cough the ball up 16 times leading to 17 points. Both teams put up an equal amount of shots as the Tigers shot 36.2 percent from the floor. A third of the Tiger's buckets came in the paint.
Leading the charge was freshman forward Reggie Ward as he finished with 16 points. He went 6-for-14 and was a flawless 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Furthermore, he added six rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Freshman guard Tomi Adesiji and sophomore guard Julian Alvarez combined for 18 points as both of them flushed nine points each. Adesiji's points came from long range as he hit all three of his three point attempts, while Alvarez scored seven points from the free throw line.
Freshman duo Darius McClain and Bryce Hall combined for 10 points off the bench.
