Comets take series opener

SAN MARCOS, CA (5/17/2024) -- The Palomar College Comet Baseball Team took a 1-0 series lead against the Santa Ana College Dons on Friday afternoon with an 11-7 victory.

The Comets attacked early, scoring two runs in the top of the first before the Dons scored four in the third. Palomar answered with three more runs in their half of the third, but the Dons took a 7-5 lead in the fourth. It was all Palomar from there as they scored two more to tie it up in the seventh and tacked on four insurance runs on the eighth to claim the first-game win.

Ryan Rivera hit his sixth home run of the season, a three-run shot in the third. Elijah Cook, Noah Lazuka and Anthony Pacino each had a double. Riveria finished with four RBI, Pacino and Luke Matthews each had three and Lazuka totaled one. 

Ian Mowad started the game for the Comets and pitched five innings. He allowed seven runs on seven hits with one strike-out. Holden Carpenter pitched two hitless innings and Noah Waldeck closed it out. He allowed one hit. 

The two teams will face one another tomorrow at 1 p.m. Palomar will play as the visiting team.
