38TH ANNUAL FC BASKETBALL CLASSIC PREVIEW

The 38th annual Fullerton College Classic Crossover begins this Friday, December 13th at the Hornets Nest and will house four top-tier opponents, including three ranked teams. 

Fullerton College (9-1 overall) is currently ranked No. 2 in the latest CCCMBCA State Top 30 poll and are on a seven-game win-streak recently beating LA Southwest by 50 points (102-52). FC's lone loss came early at No. 4 West Valley College 72-69 in a close duel last month The team is fuled by freshman Jaqari Miles (14.8 ppg/3 rpg, 2.1 apg), freshman Joe Grahovac (14.5 ppg/6.6 rpg/2.6 apg), and sophomore Addy G'Bye (12.4 ppg/3.9 rpg). Miles is a 6-2 guard that can shoot from the perimeter or take it to the basket. Grahovac is a 6-10 big from Foothill High that moves like a guard and can shoot the lights out in the gym. G'Bye is a smooth shooter that can hit the deep three when called upon. JQ Strong played a big role on last season's state quarter-final team. He is averaging 7.2 points a game. Sophomore Darvelle Wyatt is another one to look out for as he is a powerhouse under the basket scoring 7 points a game with 4.6 rebounds. Second-year guard Justin Davis (8.2 ppg/3.5 apg) has excellent ball control and is the team's floor general.

The No. 8 team in the state San Diego City (7-3 overall) has a talented crop of second-year players in Logan Houston (15.7 ppg/3.1 rpg/2.6 apg), Kenny Gonzalez (14.7 ppg/2.3 rpg/2.9 apg), Brandon Bento-Jackson (8.8 ppg/3.1 rpg/3.2 apg), Reid Celestin (6.8 ppg/4.4 rpg), and Dillon Cubit (6.1 ppg/2.9 rpg). The Knights and Hornets met last month in San Diego for an exciting game where Fullerton got past SDCC 61-58.

No. 9 in state Modesto Junior College (9-1 overall) is a strong team with only one loss on the season, a 93-82 defeat at the hands of No. 19 San Jose. The solo loss was had in the first game of the season. Since then, MJC has ripped off 8 straight victories. Two sophomores lead the Pirates in Malachi Miller (18.4 ppg/7.1 rpg/2.3 apg) and Kobe Nunes (16.5 ppg/4.1 rpg/2.1 apg). Freshmen Ylan Esso (12.7 ppg/7.1 rpg/2.1 apg) and Tyler Rattler (9.8 ppg/3.5 rpg/4.3 apg) have been standout players for Modesto helping the team scale up the rankings.

While not ranked in the CCCMBCA's Top 30, West LA College (7-4 overall) have beaten some good teams in Compton, Moorpark, and Saddleback. Leading the way for the Cougars is Rayniel Wright (13.9 ppg/5.5 rpg/4.9 apg), Ireke Udeagha (12.1 ppg/4.3 rpg/1.9 apg), Xavier Sorrell (10.5 ppg/6.4 rpg), Chidubem Akametu (8.8 ppg/3.8 rpg), and Ty Harris (6.6 ppg/2.4 rpg).

Up Next: The first game to kick off the crossover will be West LA vs. No. 8 San Diego City this Friday, December 13th in the Nest at 4:00 pm. Then, right after that game, the No. 2 Hornets (9-1 overall) will host No. 9 Modesto College at 6:00 pm. Come out and support your Hornets!
