The Saddleback men's soccer team finished in a 1-1 tie against San Bernardino Valley College on Tuesday in San Bernardino. The Bobcats led most of the way before giving up the tying goal in the final minute.
Saddleback played well throughout despite missing a couple of starters due to red cards in the previous game against Norco College last Friday and playing the No. 13 ranked team in the state according to the latest California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) Poll. The Bobcats didn't let either obstacle effect their confidence, taking a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when Antony Papacharalambous scored off a pass from Tyler Petersen. It was the first goal of the season for Papacharalambous.
Saddleback held the lead until the very end when San Bernardino Valley got the equalizer. The Wolverines scored in the final minute of regulation when Saul Ruiz connected for his third goal of the season at the 89:37 mark.
San Bernardino Valley held a slight advantage in shots on goal at 7-5. Tyler Borbounnais played the entire game in goal for Saddleback, finishing with six saves.
Saddleback is now 3-2-1 overall for the season. The Bobcats will open Orange Empire Conference play next Tuesday at Irvine Valley College. The Bobcats and Lasers are scheduled to start at 3:00 PM in Irvine.
