Hawks Secure Second-Straight Victory with Sweep of Santa Ana
The Santiago Canyon College women's volleyball team completed a season sweep of crosstown rival Santa Ana College, dominating the Dons in straight sets. The Hawks came out strong from the first serve and never looked back, cruising to a commanding victory.
Sophomore Chelsea Riedel led the charge for the Hawks, recording a match-high 21 kills while committing just four attacking errors on 39 attempts. She was also solid on defense, contributing 13 digs. Riedel currently leads the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) with 4.60 kills per set and ranks fourth in the conference with a total of 262 kills.
Sophomore Peyton Speakman came close to setting a new career-high in assists, dishing out 40 total assists—just two shy of her season-best 42, which she recorded in the season opener against Compton. Speakman ranks fourth in the OEC with 7.86 assists per set and 456 total assists. In addition to her offensive playmaking, she contributed six digs and four blocks, including two solo stuffs.
Supporting Riedel's offensive output, sophomore Sophie Ziglinski and freshman Rylie Bingel each added nine kills. Freshman Ashlyn Smith also contributed five kills and six digs, while freshman Jayden Sessom matched Smith's defensive effort with six digs of her own.
