Hawks Fly Past Jaguars in Home Opener
After an eight-game road trip to start the season, the Santiago Canyon College men's basketball team hosted the Southwestern College Jaguars for their home opener on Wednesday night. Five players scored in double figures as the Hawks cruised to a 93-81 victory.
Santiago Canyon came out strong in the first half, building a 16-point lead by halftime. Sophomore guard Eli Arthurton led the charge, scoring 14 points in the opening 20 minutes, including a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc.
Freshman forward Connor McKee was a defensive force in the paint, blocking three shots in the first half, along with contributing two assists and three rebounds.
Although the Hawks were slightly outscored in the second half, they maintained control throughout the contest to secure the win.
Arthurton finished with 17 points, while sophomore guard Tony Colley added 16 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Colin Weems provided a spark off the bench, scoring 15 points, including three three-pointers. Freshman Charles Harnish also made an impact off the bench, finishing with 12 points.
As a team, the Hawks shot over 50 percent from the field for the first time this season, finishing at a 51.6 percent clip. They also hit 50 percent of their three-pointers and forced 17 turnovers. The bench contributed 37 points, providing valuable support in a strong offensive showing.
