Irvine Valley men's head basketball coach Jason Garey is always worried about taking on the team that he once played for - Orange Coast.

But Garey and his Lasers had no problem on Friday night at home.

IVC never trailed and led by as many as 26 points before winning, 83-63, in an Orange Empire Conference game.

The Lasers moved into sole fourth place in the conference standings with one game to play in the regular season.

IVC's record went to 14-12 overall and 6-7 in conference, while Orange Coast fell to 5-21 overall and 1-12 in the OEC.

Irvine Valley led, 41-23, at the half to basically put the game away.

IVC shot 51.7 percent (15 of 29) in opening 20 minutes compared to OCC's 36.0 percent.

The Lasers were even better from the field in the second half, going 18 of 28 from the floor (64.3 percent).

They ended up finishing at 57.9 percent shooting from the floor for the contest.

Irvine Valley had four players in double figures with freshman Matt Mowers recording a double-double (17 points and 10 rebounds). He added three rebounds and one block.

Sophomore forward Josiah Reed (pictured) led IVC in points with 20 and also contributed five rebounds and four assists. Reed went a perfect 9 of 9 from the field.

IVC sophomore point guard Ammon Allan finished with 15 points (7 of 9 from the field) with seven rebounds and three assists.

And freshman point guard Allen Moser chipped in 11 points, five assists, five rebounds and one steal. Moser was 3 for 5 from three-point range.

OCC was led by Julian Daaboul with 14 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Irvine Valley will try to stay in fourth place and earn a home game in the OEC Tournament next week.

The Lasers play their final game of the regular season at district rival Saddleback next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
